About Me

My name is Rachel, and I live on the north side of Chicago.  I lived in downtown Chicago for a decade before moving to the suburbs early on in the Covid-19 pandemic as our high rise condo became too small.  I have a career in human resources in the hospitality and entertainment industry, a family that includes my husband, daughter and our two dogs.

I created this blog because in 2023, tragedy struck my family when our home burned down due to an electrical fire while we were not home.  It's a difficult life event, and while there are generic resources available through the Red Cross, fire departments and other local organizations, I wanted to know what others' experienced in similar situations and what they would say.  I found a couple helpful articles or blog posts on the web, but not nearly enough.  So this blog is my story and my learnings through having my home burn down.  I hope this is helpful to someone who may be going through something similar.
